This is an undergraduate course. In this course, we will be discussing standard pde theory at the undergraduate level (some materials are presented without rigorous proofs or are in specialized forms). The topics include: theory of first order pde and the method of characteristics, classification of second order pdes, Fourier analysis and solving wave, heat and Laplace equations; d' Alembert method for wave equaton, qualitative behavour of the said equatons using energy methods and/or maximum principles. If time allows, weak solutions in various contexts will be touched upon.
