Oxidation of Benzylic Alcohols with Butyltriphenylphosphonium Permanganate Under Non-Aqueous Conditions

ABSTRACT

Oxidation of benzylic alcohols with butyltriphenylphosphonium permanganate (BuPh3P+  ) 1(BTPPPM) in acetonitrile at room temperature is reported. This reagent selectively oxidizes benzylic alcohols in the presence of other oxidizable functional groups.
