Almond is one of the drought resistant species and growing in dry lands of Iran. To evaluate the response of seedling and cutting of peach- almond hybrid (GF677) to different irrigation regimes, an experiment was conducted in a complete randomize design under greenhouse condition in 2006. The stratified kernels and uniform rooted cuttings were planted in 20 lit. pots. After determination of field capacity of pot soils (FC), irrigation treatments were imposed by daily irrigation to FC level and 2, 4 and 8 days intervals to FC level until 96 days. Stem water potential (SWP), relative water content (RWC), stomatal conductance (gs), transpiration rate (E), photosynthetic rate (A), sub-stomatal CO2 (Ci) and water use efficiency (WUE) were determined 32 days intervals during experimental period. Result showed that stem water potential (SWP) at three times of measurement in seedlings under 8 days irrigation intervals was lower (-2.14 MPa) than in the cuttings (-1.95 MPa). The reduction of relative water content (RWC) throughout the experimental period was higher for seedlings (7.08%) than cuttings (5.13%). These facts would support the suggestion that cuttings of GF677 by better controlling of stomata, decreasing transpiration and increasing water use efficiency are a more drought- resistant than their seedlings.
